A fragrant, rich matcha latte (white matcha) with subtle sweetness. Made using tencha from Asahina, Shizuoka Prefecture, one of Japan's 3 major gyokuro production areas, this has deep green, quality matcha finished off with rich milk. This superb item recommended by Isokoma Nori is completely different from matcha lattes that are simply just sweet. Gyokuro is known as one of the finest Japanese teas, and in Asahina "Gyokuro no Sato" can be found - one of Japan's 3 major gyokuro production areas. At the 2014 and 2015 iTQi, this item won a Superior Taste Award. Comes in 2 types of bag design - Japanese pattern and Western pattern.
The region of Asahina (Okabe, Fujieda, Shizuoka Prefecture) is surrounded by abundant nature. With an environment suitable for tea leaf cultivation, along with Uji in Kyoto and Yame in Fukuoka, it is one of Japan's 3 major gyokuro production areas.
Just like for gyokuro, tea fields are covered with straw, reeds etc. (cover cultivation), blocking out sunlight. With little light, chlorophyll in the leaves increases as does theanine, an ingredient that which creates matcha's vivid color and umami. The main ingredients of the tea are tannins, caffeine and types of vitamins. However, although vitamin A and fiber are also contained within tea leaves, they are insoluble in water, and so remain in the used tea leaves of sencha, gyokuro etc. The wonderful thing about matcha tea is that it allows you to intake all of these ingredients. There are many who feel that matcha tea is a bitter drink. However, this matcha surprisingly has no astringency. Compared to sencha tea, it has a higher content of amino acids (elements of umami) and conversely has fewer tannins (elements of astringency), so features a mellow flavor. This drink is made using lots of high-quality deep green matcha tea.
